"neighbor favor" release!
just released a super small narrative typing game! you can play it in-browser on my itch page (or on PC through the itch app) - let me know what you think!
I conceived of the theme of helping your neighbor write emails during a 96 hour game jam GMC jam 46, for the theme "call for help". though I missed the submission deadline by a long shot, in the end I found the idea endearing enough to stick with it.
the game play is inspired by fond memories of my parents dictating emails for me to write in their clunky email servers in the late 90s. part of what I liked about the experience was getting a glimpse of my parents' lives I otherwise wouldn't. I was involved, but only as an invited third party, getting small hints as to the bigger picture one paragraph at a time.

JuJuAdam's scribble library saved me a lot of time with conveniences around displaying sprites inline with text (came in handy for the email interface), and setting the speed at which text is drawn without dealing with the headache of handling wrapping text jumping around (super useful for the NPC dialog and player typing). thanks for the great library!
thank you also to DT who I often co-work on discord with, to the tune of an odd nostalgic playlist, with intermittent breaks to game or chat. also thank you to Annie (visibleworld on itch), who I often chat with about projects, games, and everything in between. I count myself very lucky to be able to draw inspiration from great friends!
last but not least, thank you to Mike for the ethereal soundtrack. Mike originally made this version (on soundcloud), loosely inspired by the themes of the game. I asked if he would make a version for the game itself, and he re-worked it to fit the game completely. I think the cute and eerie tune adds so much to the game, thank you so much!
